Wageningen University and Research, Department of Soil Quality, The Netherlands

Wageningen University and Research is a collaboration between Wageningen University and five semi-governmental research institutes. It has a staff of 6500 and about 10000 students from over 100 countries. The mission of Wageningen University and Research is to explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life.

The strength of Wageningen University and Research lies in its ability to join the forces of specialised research institutes and Wageningen University. It also lies in the combined efforts of the various fields of natural and social sciences. This union of expertise leads to scientific breakthroughs that can quickly be put into practice and be incorporated into education. This is the Wageningen Approach.
The Soil Biology and Biological Soil Quality Group is part of the Department of Soil Quality of Wageningen University. Its research contributes to a sustainable use of the soil as a natural resource for the provision of ecosystem services. Areas in which its results are applied are: soil fertility, plant nutrition, management of soil biodiversity in man-made ecosystems, risk assessment, and control of greenhouse gases and nutrient emissions.

The high-quality chemical- and biological soil laboratory (CBLB) and the Wageningen proficiency testing program in the fields of plant, soil, sediments and organic waste analysis (WEPAL) are affiliated with the Department of Soil Quality.
