Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna (SSSA), Italy

The Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna SSSA (www.sssup.it) is an Italian public university funded by the state to pursue excellence in higher education and research through a multidisciplinary approach. The SSSA unit involved in the project will be Land Lab (Agroecology Group), which belongs to the Class of Experimental Sciences, Sector of Agricultural Sciences. Research carried out at SSSA is focused on agroecology, namely on the development of sustainable low-input and organic farming/cropping systems, on functional biodiversity in agroecosystems, and on weed ecology and management.

Part of SSSA expertise stems from its long-lasting collaboration with CIRAA, with whom it is running a unique series of long-term field experiments (from the early 1980s) focussing on agronomic, environmental, energetic and economic comparisons between different cropping systems/crop management systems (low-external input and/or organic) for arable and vegetable crops, carried out at field and plot scale.
